Ten Carolina Day School students recognized in Scholastic Writing Awards

Carolina Day School is proud to announce that the works of 10 CDS students were selected for recognition from among thousands entered into the regional Scholastic Writing Award competition. Among those recognized, three will advance to the national level.

Students in grades 7–12 are eligible to submit writing from a number of different categories. Gold key winners will have their work considered at the national level of the Scholastic Writing Awards.

Gold Key Winners


  • Louisa Koon ’24 for memoir “Nante Yie Yie Ghana”

  • Sophia Smith ’24 for short story “You Just Shot Me”

  • Ella Jane Zivony ’24 for short story “Vive La Vida”


Silver Key Winners


  • Grace D'Angelo ’24 for short story “Psycho”

  • Claire Thompson ’24 for poem “Watch the Woods”



  • Sophia Pereda-Echeverry '21 for “Sapientiae”

  • Erin Hovendon ’22 for short story “The Crow Would Not Shut Up” and short story “His Minutes”

  • Celia Grace Sandoval ’20 for personal essay “High Tide and Helping Hands”
