On October 22, 2018, Dr. Marc Brackett, Director of the Center for Emotional Intelligence at Yale University, will lead an evening presentation on the campus of Carolina Day School for parents on Emotional Intelligence: The Key to Raising Happy, Healthy, and Successful Children.
Emotions Matter. They inform our thinking and decisions, the quality of our relationships, our physical and mental health, and everyday performance. The skills of emotional intelligence, including the ability to recognize, understand, label, express and regulate emotions, are especially important for healthy development. Please join us to hear Dr. Marc Brackett discuss his research on emotional intelligence and “RULER,” The Yale Center’s approach to teaching emotional intelligence, which has been adopted by more than 1,500 schools across the nation, as well as in other countries. In the presentation, participants will learn about the science of emotions, the skills of emotional intelligence, and practical strategies and tools to develop emotional intelligence in their children.
Carolina Day Lower School is in its third year integrating the RULER Approach, which was co-created by Dr. Brackett. This approach promotes emotional literacy, which includes Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions (the “RULER” skills).
“We know that our students and faculty benefit greatly from our work with emotional intelligence,” said Lower School Principal Kim Broshar. “One of our goals this year is to deepen our partnership with parents around social-emotional well-being.”
For CDS parents wishing to attend, CDS will provide childcare limited to the first 40 children signed up. More information on childcare sign-up will be shared with CDS parents as the date approaches.
