Frequently Asked Questions

When does the admission process begin?

Submit your inquiry or application in the fall before the anticipated year of entry for your student. There is no application fee for applications submitted by October 31. See Date and Deadlines and Application Process.

What are the main entry points?

Lower School: Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grade 1

Key School: Grades 2-7

Middle School: Grade 6 and Grade 7

Upper School: Grade 9

Applications are welcome for all grades, but some grades are fully enrolled.  We communicate with inquiring and applying families to let them know whether spaces are available in a non-entry grade.

We suggest that families applying for non-entry grades submit their application and supplemental materials early, however, so we can act quickly if spaces become available.

What is the age requirement/birthday cutoff for Lower School?

By September 1, a student must be:

  • 4 years old for Pre-K

  • 5 years old for Kindergarten

  • 6 years old for Grade 1

We recognize that this is an arbitrary date; however, the majority of public and private schools in the Asheville area use it.

Our goal is for students to be ready for school academically, socially, and emotionally. We suggest that families let us know if they have concerns about their student’s readiness for a certain grade.

What is the policy on accepting siblings?

We appreciate that families often prefer or even need their children to attend the same school.  While sibling applicants must meet the same admission criteria as all applicants, we do our best to prioritize siblings if openings are available. At the same time, we recognize that we all benefit from a diverse community of learners, so we welcome new families to our campus as well.

What is Carolina Day School’s commitment to diversity?

Diversity adds quality to a community by cultivating a richness of ideas, a broadening of perspectives, and a respect for others. We are committed to building a faculty, student body, and school culture which reflect the diversity of the greater world around us.

Does Carolina Day School accept applications after February 1?

Yes. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis if spaces remain available in a given grade.

When will we receive a decision from Carolina Day School?

Decision dates are determined by the date your fully completed application is received. Please refer to the Decision Dates page for details.
