Earth Week, which takes place this year April 16–20, is a great time for our school to recognize our impact on the environment and to celebrate efforts that promote responsible stewardship of our planet and its resources.

Carolina Day School eighth-grader Cyrus Garretson was recently honored at a ceremony hosted by the 2018 Scholastic Art Awards of the WNC Region at the Diana Wortham Theater. His award-winning photograph "Wood Dome" earned him the American Institute of Architects Award.

What a night! Nash Athletic Center was full of love on Saturday night as we celebrated and supported financial assistance at Carolina Day. Thank you to the 245 community members who signed up to be a part of the second Share the Promise event, and to everyone who supported through donations and prize drawing tickets.

Grade 8 student Erin Hovendon from Carolina Day School has been notified by the National Geographic Society that she is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2018 North Carolina National Geographic State Bee. The contest will be held at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte on Friday, April 6, 2018.

Carolina Day School congratulates the following students, whose works were selected from among thousands entered into the Southeast Writing Region-at-Large. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to submit writing from a number of different categories. Gold Key pieces advance to the national competition where they will be considered for National Awards.

In commemoration of the living legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on Thursday, January 11, Carolina Day School will host our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration with activities in each of our divisions. In addition, CDS student volunteers, faculty, and staff will take part in Asheville area events.

On Tuesday, November 28, the 8th grade class of Carolina Day School took a trip to the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute as an extension of the astronomy unit they are doing in the classroom.

As one member of the Class of 2024 sifted through her soil samples, she discovered a slender, two-inch piece of heavily oxidized metal that tapered to a crude point: the first crossbow bolt head ever found on the site.

On Friday, August 25, nationally acclaimed hiker, Jennifer Pharr Davis, gave an inspirational talk to CDS students in middle and lower school about her legendary record-breaking hike on the Appalachian Trail. Her visit to CDS kicked off a new school-wide initiative of outdoor exploration.

Using the C-ROADs World Climate simulation designed by Climate Interactive, eighth-graders are culminating their cross curricular unit on global issues by conducting a climate summit simulation.

Ms. Ogle, Mrs. Heskamp, and 10 Middle School Spanish students went on a service-learning tour through Peru. The group worked alongside residents of a village in the Sacred Valley of the Andean Highlands to help build a workshop for artisans. They also donated soccer balls to children of the village.
