Get to know Charlotte Greene:

What do you like most about your job at CDS? Colleagues that inspire me with their dedication to education. You will often find teachers in the workroom sharing new ideas, discussing strategies that worked well in the classroom, and commenting on successes that students have achieved with new lesson plans.”

In your opinion, how does the CDS community inspire students to be courageous and curious, wonder about things that they don’t understand, try new things, and develop individual passions? By creating a safe environment within the classroom students know they are encouraged and supported.  Students can see the genuine concern for their well being among teachers. Teachers in the Middle School are always trying to observe students during social times to make sure that all are happy and connected to their peers.  In the classroom, we are also checking in with students who seem to be having a difficult day. This gives students a support system to be courageous within.  We are a part of the village that helps to raise each child.”

How would you describe your classroom? “My classroom is a place where students can tell that I have their best interests at heart. A place where learning is celebrated and curiosity is encouraged. My students know that I am here to help them through the learning process, and that I will put in the extra effort to help them succeed.”

What books and authors inspire you? I find nuggets of inspiration from many different books and articles. Last Child in The Woods by Richard Louv was a book that really resonated with me.”

How would you describe yourself and/or your approach to your job in 10 words or less? A dedicated and patient teacher with a positive attitude.”

Which classroom projects/events are you known for? “Finance math is a topic that I have been recently incorporating in the 6th grade math curriculum. I think it is important for students to understand basic concepts of finance so that they can make good financial choices as young adults. Applying mathematics to the real world also helps students secure comprehension for new concepts.”

What personal passion brings balance to your life? “You will often find me hiking on a trail or in my garden. You should see my asparagus!”

How is CDS different from what you experienced as a child in school? At CDS the teachers really get to know each child. There is a true sense of community where all is valued and nurtured.”
