Carolina Day School Claims Fourth Consecutive NCISAA 2A Girls Cross-country Championship

The Wildcat girls cross-country team left Cary Academy on Friday, October 27, with the state’s biggest prize, wrapping up the team’s fourth consecutive state championship under coaches Mark Driscoll and Brian Rannie.

"A late-season injury to our #1 runner and the race favorite, sophomore Olivia Sutter, meant that the team's #5 runner, sophomore Peyton Jenkins, had to step up and deliver her strongest performance of the season,” said coach Mark Driscoll. “She rose to the challenge with a nearly 90-sec season's best time and 17th place finish. This was was more than enough to secure the fourth straight team championship for the Carolina Day girls.”

Coach Brian Rannie added, “She had a lot of pressure on her going into this meet. She did an amazing job.”

The Wildcats showed the strongest depth in all divisions of the NCISAA with their top-four runners all placing in the top-ten and earning all-state honors.

Performances:

  • 4 girls in the top 10, earning all-state honorelles.

  • 2nd - Ella Dockendorf (sophomore) 19:28

  • 4th - Ellen Weaver (junior) 19:39

  • 6th - Erin Hovendon (8th grade) 19:43

  • 8th - Kathleen Norton (senior captain) 19:57
