NCISAA All State Tennis Player of the Year

2013 Accomplishments: Carolina Day School’s tennis star Kyle Cenderelli ’15 was recently named CAA All Conference Player of the Year and NCISAA All State Player of the Year. Cenderelli has also dominated the Asheville USTA arena this year winning both the Asheville City Junior Open and the Asheville Spring Classic in the 18′s. He is currently ranked at No. 12 in the 18’s and No. 10 in the 16’s in North Carolina. This school year, Kyle played a total of 135 games in singles and gave up just 9 games. He is undefeated this season, and in fact, has not lost a tennis match in his middle school or high school career. Cenderelli, who has been competing in tournaments since age 12, started at Carolina Day School in August 2012.

Being a Student Athlete: “Everyone is so supportive, enthusiastic and loves to practice as a team,” said Cenderelli. “It’s great that Carolina Day helps me with time management and that my teachers are willing to give me extra time to be able to play in my tournaments. My coach, Allie, has been really supportive, always telling me to keep going forward and that I am doing well, even if I lose.”

Individualized Support at CDS: “Carolina Day has done an excellent job welcoming the Cenderelli family to the community,” said Kyle’s mother, Cheryl Cenderelli. “What I have  been most impressed with is that Kyle has found other kids who are dedicated just like him. He gets up at 5 a.m. and hits the courts, and his friends do the same in other sports. Carolina Day is wonderful about kids connecting with their studies, but also catering to their passions. Kyle has significant academic and athletic goals for himself and we love to be able to facilitate these individual visions and goals.”

Beyond CDS: “Kyle is willing, determined, humble and eager to succeed,” said his coach Allie Lawing. “His commitment is unparalleled and his future is extremely bright. Kyle can play Division 1 tennis and has a very successful tennis career ahead of him but most importantly, Kyle is a nice kid!”
