Lower School Transformation Announced for 2015-16
Posted 12/15/2014 03:18PM

Every day at Carolina Day School, Lower School students are engaged in meaningful work, supported by outstanding teachers who inspire, challenge, and invite them to grow. As part of our mission, our students are empowered to apply their knowledge and skills to collaborate, problem-solve, design, and create. Now is the time for our Lower School facilities to appropriately accommodate the innovative, inquiry-based teaching and learning occurring every day on campus. In the summer of 2015, we will embark on a renovation plan to transform the Lower School and build a new Library & Information Commons.

Interactive, Learning-centered Classrooms

With It All Begins Here, we will create spacious classroom environments for individual and collaborative student learning.  The new classrooms, designed with our teachers, reflect their vision and best practices for inquiry-based learning.

Library & Information Commons

A new Library & Information Commons will be built in the heart of the campus, integrating knowledge and technology throughout the CDS learning experience.  New methods for research and access to information and books will transform students’ preparation for the rapidly changing, knowledge-based workplace. Here’s what we’ll see:

  • Digital and print resources for research, learning, and collaboration

  • Spaces for individual, small group, and division learning

  • Age-appropriate reading and studying areas

  • New community space for meetings and events

It All Begins Here sets the stage for the next chapter in Carolina Day School’s proud history. It supports and enhances our faculty’s ability to offer the innovative, creative and connective learning experiences synonymous with CDS. If you are considering enrollment at Carolina Day, contact our admission director, Michelle Nailen, for a tour of campus to learn more about these exciting changes. A calendar of planned small-group tours and open houses will also help you plan your visit.
